Singing

Each Friday morning we enjoy singing songs together. This morning some of our Year 5 students led us in their Rock da House songs.

Enterprise

Turama and Ramaroa students have been using their 'thinking lights' to come up with ideas of products to sell at a Christmas Market. The purpose is to make money so we can buy a huge TV screen for our hall so we can share our learning more effectively. Today each group presented their idea back to everyone. Many groups had made prototypes to share and were able to tell us how much profit we could make from selling their product. Now it's time to vote to see which products will make the top 5 for us to make next term... Watch this space!

Flight

We had a 'flight' day on Wednesday.  Turama students did a variety of learning activities throughout the day such as making kites and doing a mini group inquiry on the four forces of flight (lift, weight, thrust, drag).

Inspirational Week of Maths

This week we have been doing lessons from the Inspirational Week of Maths on youcubed.org.  The key concepts we have been learning during the activities are:
  • Having a growth mindset for mathematics is important. We can all learn math to any level we choose. Self belief is really important.
  • Math learning is best when we have opportunities to make connections between pictures and numbers. It is good to draw and to try to understand mathematics visually.
  • Math should never be associated with speed. Students should always pause for refection and take time to make sense of the math they are learning.
Here is a photo of the activity from Lesson 1 called Four 4s. Using only four 4s we had to write as many statements as we could which equalled the numbers 1-20.

Genuis Hour Presentations

Last Friday the Year 5's presented their Genius Hour projects to the senior school. The rest of Turama went along to see what our Year 5's had been busy doing over the past few weeks. We could tell they put a lot of time and effort into their projects.
Here are a few photos of the presentations and their projects.

Daffodil Day

Thanks so much to everyone for supporting Daffodil Day!

Winter Sports Day

Winter Sports Tournament took place on Tuesday 23 August at the Motueka Rec Centre, fields and courts.  Our children played many games of netball, soccer and hockey and all seemed to have an awesome day! Below is a photo of one of the hockey teams. This team got second over all. Thanks so much to all of the parents who supported teams by taking by coaching, managing or taking transport. You are all amazing!

Rock Da House

What an awesome night at Rock Da House last Thursday!
Well done to the Year 5's for learning all of the actions and songs. They put a lot of time and effort into this performance. We were very proud of you.
