Fun with Karla

Every Wednesday Karla from No Child Left Inside comes in and takes us for a range of PE activities. No Child Left Inside is a community organisation focused on assisting children to become competent in fundamental movement - the ability to confidently run, jump, throw and catch.
Last week Karla brought her rainbow parachute. Here are a few photos of the different activities we played using the parachute.

Olympic Games viewing

On Tuesday Ramaroa class and Grant came into Turama so we could all watch the final of the Women's Sevens together. It was lots of fun (apart from the Aussies beating us) and great seeing the NZ women persevere right into overtime, never giving up. This is the growth mindset that we are teaching our students in Turama so the NZ team were wonderful role models for us.

Jack Frost!

The children have been enjoying the cold mornings, finding ice around the school and bringing it into the classroom to share! Costa and Alex found these big chunks of ice down bottom field after Jack Frost made a visit to the school overnight.

Winter Sports

Lauren and Julieanne were invited out to watch some of the Turama students playing netball at Saxton courts last Wednesday. The girls have improved so much since last year and were having lots of fun together. Then this weekend Aiden invited his teachers to watch his rugby game: Waimea against Rangers, which was great as Brecon and Maddy were in the Rangers team. What an awesome, action-packed game it was too, with Aiden and Brecon getting tries.

Flight

This week we started our Term 3 Thematic Unit on Flight with students being given the task of making a flight machine out of recycled materials. There was some great teamwork shown and some creative ideas demonstrated. Prizes were given for Most Creative, Best Teamwork and for the machines that flew the furtherest.

RDA Cookie Sale

Today we had the RDA Gingerbread Horse Cookies for sale during morning tea. These $2 cookies were made by Sienna, Mya, Eamonn and Emma to help 'bake a difference' for Riding for Disabled. A huge thank you to Olivia and Yvette for helping with the whole process.
